2022 Fall Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations, Gabrielle and Andrew!

2022 Recipient Arthur C. Pike Scholarship in Meteorology Gabrielle Brown Senior at Northern Vermont University Majoring in Atmospheric Sciences Minoring in Mathematics

Gabrielle Brown is a senior student at Northern Vermont University (NVU), in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric Sciences and a minor in Mathematics. Originally from Brimfield, Massachusetts, Gabby developed career aspirations to go into Atmospheric Sciences after a tornado devastated her hometown. Her experiences as a student researcher for NVU-Lyndon, the University of Michigan as a participant in the Program in Climate and Space Science Observation, and the National Weather Service as a NOAA Hollings Scholar, have urged her to follow a path of research. Gabby is also involved with the NVU-Lyndon Chapter of the AMS & NWA for a third year. From 2020-2022, she was the Community Outreach Coordinator. Now, she holds the position of President for the chapter and oversees the organization of the Northeastern Storm Conference. Lastly, Gabrielle works as a Student Leader and Representative for The Climate Consensus, Inc. where she works to get students involved in climate change outreach. These experiences have aided in shaping her career aspirations to conduct research on the impact of climate change on extreme weather. An overarching goal she has is to improve how this research is communicated and to use this research to encourage the reduction of carbon emissions. Gabby plans to continue her education by attending graduate school to research, learn and develop her communication skills to use throughout her career.

2022 Recipient Phillips Family Undergraduate Meteorology Scholarship Andrew Muehr Sophomore at The University of Oklahoma Majoring in Meteorology Minoring in Mathematics

My name is Andrew Muehr, and I am a sophomore meteorology major at the University of Oklahoma. I'm originally from a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the wide variety of weather fueled my love for meteorology. I have a passion for severe thunderstorm research and am currently researching supercells using supercomputer simulations, as well as working on a paper I plan to publish soon. I enjoy running, soccer, frisbee, music, spending time with friends and family, and experiencing whatever weather nature has to offer.
