New Seal Holder: Dave Nussbaum

Congratulations to our newest Seal holder, Dave Nussbaum of CBS 42 News in Birmingham, AL!

Dave Nussbaum NWA Seal Holder

Q: What sparked your interest in meteorology?
A: When I was a kid growing up in Pittsburgh, I was very afraid of thunderstorms. I used to call for my parents in the middle of the night when it stormed.  My mom got the idea of going to the library to read about storms and how they developed, etc. Her thought was if I was educated about them then my fear would subside.  Well, it worked and then I was hooked on weather!

Q: What do you love to do in your free time?
A: Spend time with my family, run and travel.

Q: Do you have any unusual/hidden talents?
A: Hmmm...not really?!  Haha. I have a great sense of direction and can't seem to ever get lost when traveling. I recognize a road and know where it goes. I don't know if you call that a talent, but it is a good skill, maybe?

Q: What is your favorite type of weather?
A: Severe and tropical weather

Q: What do you love most about being a member of the NWA?
A: The organization's focus on science and education. It is so important to educate the public not only when the weather is bad, but at anytime. Also, we have a great camaraderie between members. NWA has a fantastic group of meteorologists in the organization and I have made some lifelong friendships.
