Our statement supporting forecasters

The National Weather Association understands that operational forecasting can be very difficult at times. Forecasters must carefully consider and weigh a myriad of factors, including rapidly updating model guidance, observations, model trends, climatology, and the forecasters' own experiences, to prepare the most accurate forecast possible, working within the limits of the science. It is advantageous to review the forecast process for weather events, particularly significant events, to determine what went well, what could have been done better, and what lessons can be learned, in a productive and respectful manner. The NWA fully supports all operational meteorologists in the weather industry who work tirelessly every day to create and communicate high-quality forecasts and warnings for the public, officials, and other decision-makers.
