A Tornado Track Climatology for the Huntsville Forecast Area 1874 to 2007
Troutman, Tim ; Gaston, Dr. Greg

This research provides an overview of the spatial and temporal patterns for all tornados recorded in the Huntsville forecast area between 1874 and 2007. The individual tornado tracks were created from National Weather Service Storm Data using the Geographic Information System. A density of tracks was generated by creating a raster array for the paths using an additive model. Tornado events were summarized and graphed by years and months of occurrence along with time of each event. These datasets provide the opportunity for analysis of the large scale spatial and temporal patterns of tornado events across the area. Any preferred development locations are discussed along with an analysis of the overall temporal patterns in tornadogenesis across the area.
