Strategic Roadmap for the Future
In June 2009, the NWA Council met with a facilitator to evaluate the strategic position of the organization. Council members reached a consensus that a new strategic roadmap was necessary, building upon the success of the 2002 NWA Strategic Plan. This new plan focuses on member services, growing and retaining the membership, and strengthening the NWA's financial position. Below is a breakdown of the three main strategic objectives and milestones associated with each.
§
Expand and enhance the services provided to NWA members
- Review and enhance, as appropriate, the process to ensure that production of the NWA Digest is timely and is produced at least twice a year
- Hire a Web development firm to assist the Association in significantly enhancing its current Web site. These enhancements will include:
- A members-only portal with online access to publications and tiered membership option [Accomplished at http://member.nwas.org]
- Capabilities for blogging and message boarding
- An archive of current and past publications
- A redesign of the entire Web site to improve the appearance, functionality and the features available to members
§
Grow and retain the NWA membership
- Develop and execute a formalized marketing plan that targets strengthening overall market awareness and attracting and retaining new members
- Optimize recruitment efforts in all sectors of the meteorological field
- Increase total membership by 5 to 10% per year for the next 5 years
- Target universities and regional conferences for new members. Have an NWA presence at 4 or more regional conferences for the next four years
- Redesign the NWA logo
§
Develop effective strategies to strengthen the financial position of the NWA for the long-term
- Maintain an investment strategy that has the appropriate level of risk versus reward for a non-profit organization
- Maintain at least 50% of one year's operating expenses in reserve
- Examine dues and fee structures on at least an annual basis
- Optimize operations to minimize cost
NWA VISION
A premier professional organization that is indispensable to the operational meteorology community.
